The Kai Samiere approach · Virtual nutrition coaching
Sports nutrition built around your life.
Kai Samiere, MS, RD provides personalized nutrition coaching for youth and high school athletes, active adults, and the teams and families supporting them. His approach connects evidence-based nutrition with the realities of school, training, work and everyday meals.
Services include virtual sports nutrition coaching, the 90-Day DEXA + Nutrition program, team nutrition education, and youth training with nutrition support. Start with your goals and build a practical plan you can use.
A foundation you can build on
Practical nutrition. Individual attention.
Nutrition coaching begins with understanding how you live and what you want to achieve. A high school athlete navigating lunch and afternoon practice needs different support from an adult building muscle or preparing for an endurance event. Your plan should reflect that difference.
01 · ESTABLISH THE BASICS
Build a reliable foundation.
We start with food availability, regular meals, adequate fueling, hydration and recovery routines. The first changes address the gaps that matter most in your day, with room to become more specific as your needs evolve.
02 · MAKE IT PERSONAL
Fit the plan to real life.
Your sport, schedule, food preferences, cultural traditions, budget and family routines shape the recommendations. Meal planning, grocery ideas and flexible food choices make the plan useful beyond the appointment.
03 · REVIEW & ADAPT
Use feedback with purpose.
We review what is working and adjust what is difficult. Training demands, appetite, energy and consistency guide the conversation. For adults who choose DEXA-informed coaching, scan results add context to the broader picture.

The individual coaching process
From assessment to everyday action.
01 · UNDERSTAND
Start with your full routine.
The 12-week nutrition program begins with a 60-minute assessment. We discuss goals, food preferences, training, school or work schedules, and the barriers you want help addressing. A parent or guardian participates in arranging care for a minor.
02 · PRACTICE
Put a written plan to work.
Receive personalized next steps for meals, snacks, hydration and recovery. Four 30-minute follow-ups around weeks 2, 5, 8 and 12 provide time to review progress and adjust the plan as your needs change.
03 · BUILD CONFIDENCE
Get support between visits.
Messaging support includes replies within two business days, plus one brief food-log or routine review each week when useful. Practical resources and a final next-step plan help you continue using what you learn.
Progress means more than a number.
We consider the goals that brought you to coaching: more reliable meals, confidence planning for competition, energy through the school or work day, and routines you can sustain. For adults with body composition goals, DEXA results can contribute additional information. The measures we use should support your goals and your relationship with food.

Questions about Kai’s nutrition approach
What does a sports dietitian help with?
A sports dietitian helps connect eating habits with training, recovery and daily demands. With Kai, this may include meal and snack planning, fueling around exercise, hydration, body composition goals for adults, or helping a growing athlete eat consistently around school and sport. Recommendations are tailored to the person and their schedule.
Do I need a DEXA scan or calorie targets?
No. Neither is required for individual or youth nutrition coaching. Adults who choose the 90-Day DEXA + Nutrition program receive scan-informed guidance, including calorie and macronutrient targets. Youth coaching prioritizes adequate fueling, growth and practical routines without requiring calorie tracking or weight goals.
Can parents join youth nutrition appointments?
Yes. Parents help make shopping, meals and scheduling possible, while the athlete’s preferences and goals help shape the plan. The 12-week youth program begins with a 60-minute assessment involving the athlete and parent or guardian, followed by four 30-minute sessions.
Can I work with Kai outside San Francisco?
Nutrition appointments are virtual. If you are in Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, Honolulu, elsewhere on Oʻahu or another location, share your state and goals so Kai can confirm availability before you book. Only the training portion of the combined youth off-season program requires attendance in San Francisco.
How do the 12-week and 90-day programs differ?
The 12-week nutrition program provides five appointments and broader ongoing support for youth or adult nutrition goals. The 90-Day DEXA + Nutrition program provides three 30-minute appointments organized around an adult’s initial scan, midpoint review and follow-up scan. The separate youth training program includes in-person sessions with Elijah and four nutrition appointments with Kai. Compare program details and pricing.
How can a coach or school request a workshop?
Email Kai with the sport, athlete age group, approximate group size, goals and preferred timing. Kai can recommend a workshop or ongoing support plan and prepare a custom proposal. A free 20-minute consultation is also available to discuss fit.
