About The Athlete Journal by Kai Samiere

If this is your first read, welcome.

I’m starting The Athlete Journal as a place to share my perspectives on nutrition, training, recovery, and testing as it relates to performance.

My goal: make The Athlete Journal a trusted resource for athletes, coaches, and trainers by turning nutrition and performance science into clear, practical insights for those living and breathing their game.

Nutrition, training, and recovery are fundamental pillars to any successful athlete regardless of their degree. Whether it be AAU or the Olympics, elite athletes are built from the ground up with a solid, well-rounded support system.

In my work as a Dietitian, I’ve noticed a lack of emphasis on nutrition in the sports world over the past few years, affecting athletes of all ages, from youth to masters.

They’ve got the training programs down, the recovery is on point, but nutrition seems more like an afterthought…

I’ve seen D1 colleges and pro soccer clubs without a dietitian on staff. I’ve seen Olympic athletes that aren’t fueling between long practices. And I’ve seen real athletes that have made it to the top of their game off of physical talent alone.

When you look at the best in the game (the Tom Brady’s, the LeBron James’, the other GOATs of their sports), they’ve got their nutrition dialed in and don’t take it lightly.

In fact, they’re doing everything they can to gain an upper edge on their competitors.

When I see an athlete reach a new level of performance, simply through eating the right way (not necessarily what they eat but how they eat), there’s no better feeling.

And that is why I am starting The Athlete Journal.

To break down complex nutrition topics, to cut through the latest trends and claims, and to turn the things that actually matter for performance into clear, relatable briefs for busy athletes.

Ultimately, looping in top professionals and experts from across the world to speak on topics beyond my scope and expertise, creating the leading publication for evidence-based performance insights that are direct to the athlete.

No junk, no spam, and no BS — just informative articles that get you thinking about how you can be the best athlete.

Thank you for reading and if you choose to follow along, just know you’re in for something good.

With that said, I’ll leave you with one sentence that fuels The Athlete Journal:

Be better than yesterday.
